      In human geo today we learned the following,

• A message to Garcia was written in 1899, first published as an inspirational essay, quickly became popular and sold over 40 million copies, and think about it, there were only about 200 million homes in America at the time, so that's quite impressive. 
• it was translated into 37 different languages and was made into a movie.
• take "a message to Garcia" became a slang term for take initiative and is still used in the military to this day.
• Garcia- A revolutionary seeking Cuban independence from Spain.
• rowan- an army officer
• McKinley- president William McKinley 1897-1901, a mountain was named after him in Alaska in 2015.
• perihelion- the point when a planet is closest to the sun and therefore at its brightest.
• slipshod- careless, slapdash
• imbecility-incapability-stupidity-feebleness.
• stenographer- a person who takes dictation in shorthand.
• missive- a letter, especially long or an official one.
• Arete- Greek practice of excellence in everything, the act of living up to ones full potential.
